Eyes One Week On
So it’s been a week since I had my laser eye treatment and what a week it’s been!
I’ve just about gotten used the waking up in the morning and being able to see! What a great feeling that is
The goggles Optical Express give you to wear are actually really comfy and give you some piece of mind when you’re sleeping that you won’t damage your eyes! Although I did find that on the first night of wearing them I wore them way to tight and I ended up with goggle marks for the whole of the next day. 8 or so hours of sleeping with foam tightly pushing on your skin leaves some pretty hefty marks! I learned from that mistake though and wore them much looser for the rest of the week with no problems at all.
My eyes are still quite red, this is the bruising from where the flap is made on the eye. It’s not painful though and attracts quite a lot of attention from people! I work in a shop and although people try not to ask, they end up doing so anyway, and they’re fascinated by the story … many of whom were impressed enough with my perfect eyesight to go and get it done themselves!
Despite some people reporting dry eyes and itchyness after surgery, I can safely say that mine feel fine all day and all night. As instructed I am putting the three different types of drops in throughout the day which aids the healing process. The artificial tears feel really nice when you put them in and actually make your vision better as the lubrication actually helps to make you see clearer – not that I need that as my vision is as perfect as it can be!
I drove my car 24 hours after surgery as at my post-op appointment the man said that I had perfect vision so was able to drive as I pleased. Good news eh!
Night vision is great, although bright lights – at present – are quite haloed and there is some glare around them. However I’ve been assured that this will go away as my eyes heal so should be gone within a couple weeks. This doesn’t impair my driving, nor is it such a nuisance that I can’t drive, it’s just the lights are quite bright.
There was some surf around today, and despite the urge to go in I resisted and decided to take the doctors orders seriously and stay out of the sea – I don’t want any dirty sea water getting into my eyes with the possibility of infection! I did however debate whether wearing swimming goggles would be a good idea … in the end I stayed dry.
So what else can I say about life a week after surgery? Not much else really! It really is fantastic and will go down in my history as being one of the best things I’ve ever done or ever will do for that matter.
