laser eye surgery how it works
laser eye surgery how it works

Do you laser eye surgery off colour with my joke in the workplace after my laser eye surgery?
A couple of months back I had my eyes lasered so that I can see better. Anyways when I came back into work, everyone wanted to know how they were, what it was like to be able to see normally without contacts lenses etc etc.
Anyway while everyone was gathered around, one guy asked ‘What differences do you notice now?’
And I said, “Well you see John over there” as I point to John, a strapping lad who happens to be …. how can I say this …… a man of colour. The guy nods and I said “Well before the eye surgery, I had absolutely no idea he was black”
Now some of the people laughed at this, but others took a sharp intake of breath.
Was I right to joke like or is it racist?
You have done absolutely nothing wrong. You hear it on Tv and radio every day, white man, black man and so on, perfectly good English with no offence intended, or are we to obliterate the word “black” from our language. I have read that it’s NOT PC to use the word coloured, the word black is preferred. So you work with some funny people, you don’t work for the Lib Dem’s by any chance.
