laser eye surgery high prescription

laser eye surgery high prescription

Would I be a good candidate for laser eye surgery?

I am 17 years old, and I’ve been wearing glasses/contacts for two years. I am very nearsighted. I went to the eye doctor for the first time in a long time when I was 15, because I never noticed my vision was so bad until I started high school. I go to my optometrist every 6 months, and every time I go, she tells me my vision has gotten worse. She says it’s normal, that it’s probably genetics, and my vision will probably continue to weaken. I’ve had 4 different prescriptions for glasses/contacts; each time the prescription gets stronger. Also, my right eye is weaker than my left eye. The vision in my right eye is 20/400 and my left eye is 20/325.

Would it be a good candidate for laser eye surgery? Also, since I am only 17, and my vision is so bad, is it possible for me to go blind?

Near sightedness will progress until u reach an age of 21-22.
So doctors dont perform laser surgery until the vision is stable.
This is because, once the operation is done, there might be a change in power and you will have to undergo the operation again. So you have to wait until our vision becomes stable – which is normally at the age of 21-22 .
After that they will carry out 3-4 tests on your eyes to determine your exact sight, if your cornea is thick enough to perform the operation and so on. If you meet the criteria, then they will carry out the operation.
