What is the study of Optics about?

I am about to go to college in a few months and one of the majors i got interested in is called Optics?

what do they study, is it all about making Eye glasses and choosing contact lenses ? and light reflection and about physical theory’s, Does it include laser surgery?

I asked people in the college , but its a new major in that college, so they know less about it

It would have very little to do with eyeglasses and contact lenses in general, although lens design would be a possible practical aspect of anything you would study.
