laser eye vision correction surgery
British Army Eyesight Requirments?
Ok so I just spoke on a live chat on the internet with an army officer about the minimum requirements for eyesight in the British Army. This was his reply:
Eyesight Standards The standard personal weapon is the SA80 and this requires vision in the right eye to be correctable to no less than 6/9. Vision in the left eye must be correctable to no less than 6/36. Spectacle correction must be no greater than -7diopters or +8 in any meridian. Certain types of surgery or laser treatment to correct visual defects are unacceptable and clarification should be sought prior to application. The standards required by the Army Air Corps are higher than for other branches: applicants should check current standards with the Army Air Corps.
Can somebody confirm that this means I can apply for any job in the British Army if my eyesight is between -7 and +8 except the AAC? So if I wanted to, I might be able to be a sniper or a scout for instance?
Thanks

Basically you need to be able to read 6mm text from a distance of 6 metres aided with spectacles if you wear them. Some employments will be denied to persons with deuteropia or propanopia (colour blindness) I’m not sure if this would apply to ’snipers’ but I would imagine that good colour perception would be an asset.
