I’m 41 and need reading glasses…?

I just came from the eye doctor and found out that I need reading glasses. His exact words were, “You’re starting to lose some of your close up vision.” Before my appointment I had noticed some trouble when I’m on the computer and when reading the newspaper.

My question is, is this normal at my age? (I’m 41) I’ve always assumed reading glasses were something you didn’t need until at least your 50s. I spend at least 6 or more hours a day on the computer. Could this be a contributing factor?

Also, does anyone know of any eye exercises that will help. I know improving my vision is a long shot, but is there anything that can slow the progression?

P.S. – I had laser surgery on my right eye about 10 years ago and in the other I wear a contact in my left eye.

Thanks for your help!

Presbyopia is not unusual at your age, a hardening of the lens. Nothing is going to stop it. If vanity is your problem go with contacts in both eyes. You only need them for reading now anyway.
