laser eye surgery bc

Wearing glasses in the Army?

Well i leave for camp in 17 days (right after i graduate HS) and i don’t have the best vision. I’ve never worn glasses before (just contacts) and i know that i will have to wear those huge BC glasses. When I’m done with basic training and AIT (if time is allowed) can get laser eye surgery during leave? Or can i wear contacts when I’m doing drills and stuff?

You can wear contacts i think, but nobody I know did that because they often fall out during the more rigorous drills. It is acceptable to get laser eye surgery but I would advise talking to your NCO first in case they need to make arrangements or exceptions etc. A friend of mine who did basic two years before me just stuck with the glasses they issued since it is much easier and less of a hassle even if it does look awkward.

And I don’t think contacts were allowed in basic and if you were to be deployed to say Iraq or Afghanistan, obviously the sandstorms and stuff are going to cause problems for you. I would recommend the laser eye surgery in the long run as long as your command allows it.
