laser eye surgery england
Anyone had laser eye surgery in NW England? Where and how much and can you tell me how it went? 10 pts!?
Think it’s between £500 or £1500 per eye, depending on the kind of treatment and the people doing it. Most offer payment plans.
I had it done a few years ago with Optimax.
I had the cheaper method, I think the more expensive one is called Lasik.
With the cheaper method, they run the laser over once first. This takes a layer off the front of your eyeball. This then heals, and your bad eyesight returns (10 days-ish). Then you go back in, and from the speed and amount of healing they can then set the laser for the precise operation of taking exactly enough away, so when it heals, it ends up as a good eye. You then repeat it for the other eye if all went well. They do one eye at a time so as not to leave you blind if there are complications (rare).
The lasik version involves a more technical approach; they cut a ‘flap’ in your lens, lift it, burn out the eye under it and lay the flap back down. As it’s only the edges of the flap healing, rather than the ‘shaved’ surface of your eyeball, recovery time is quicker and pain is less.
As for pain: Operation itself, didn’t hurt at all. My eye felt warm for 30 seconds or so.
The recovery is a bit like being a vampire though; strong light hurts like looking at the sun, you’ll feel like you have sand in your eyes for about 5 days or so. But the good thing for me was being able to read the clock on the DVD player without glasses from the minute I took off the bandages.
I couldn’t recommend it more, glasses are evil things.
Oh, and it only works for short sight, not long.
