Blood behind retina?

I was hit around my right eye a week ago and went and saw a doctor today. He said that I had a hemmorage behind my retina and that it could lead to a retinal detachment or tear. he told me he couldnt find a tear so to go home for 2 weeks and see if the blood goes away. He said if my floaters increase or I begin to see black shadow to come to him immediately. What is the possibility that it will go away and I will need some sort of surgery or laser treatment?

A blunt-trauma-induced haemorrhage, which has not affected the macula or left any sign of a retinal tear is not normally given active treatment. Like any other bruise (which is a haemorrhage into tissue) it tends to take care of itself.

The exceptions are critical:
Any experience of a change of vision, or fresh floaters or flashes, should be reported immediately.

Otherwise, the eye can safely be put on “probation”
A recheck to ensure proper re-absorption in a few weeks is fine. If it was a big haemorrhage, rechecking in 3-4 months for new blood vessels and raised intraocular pressure may also be advised: again, as a precaution.
