PRK Surgery – Thin corneas, High prescription?
Hi, am looking to see if anyone else has been in my shoes regarding laser eye surgery, and am looking for advice…
My eyes are -7.25 and -7.50…. my cornea thickness is 475. I know I’m not a candidate for lasik, but have been offered PRK by 2 different reputable organizations. A third organization was only willing to offer me ICL, which I refuse.
Has anyone had eyes like mine who did go for surgery? Comments?
Thank you!
PRK can be done on thin corneas because you are only removing the thinnest layer on the top. The other procedure, lasik, needs to slice the top off and laser the middle layer, and your cornea is too thin for that.
ICL’s are trickier. I have only seen one in my office, she was happy but it’s not a pretty sight, seeing that lens sitting in the front of the eye. I would get PRK or nothing. The ICL’s are associated with more problems, like cataract formation and chronic eye problems.
Remember that if you have PRK or LASIK, it’s harder to wear contacts afterwards because your cornea has a plateau shape. So, if you have good with contacts, I would stick with that.
