Why Should I Get An Eye Exam?

The  American Optometric Association says even if you have perfect vision and don’t think you need eyeglasses, you should still get your eyes examined every one – two years.  This is because there are a number of diseases which can be identified by your optometrist while having an eye exam.

These diseases include:

  • Glaucoma – Effects the optic nerve which can result in visual field loss, and can lead to blindness.  Symptoms include loss of his or her side vision, which will get progressively worse possibly leading them to lose their straight vision as well.  This can be treated with medicines, laser trabeculoplasty, and surgery.  The earlier it’s detected the better so make sure your eyes examined through dilated pupils every two years by an eye care professional.
  • High Blood Pressure – Can lead to stroke, heart attack,  kidney failure and heart failure.
  • Diabetes – Can lead to damage of retina, kidneys, as well as heart diease.
  • Macular Degeneration – deterioration of the central part of the retina, causing blurred vision and blind spots.

As you can see, between your vision and your general health it’s important to have an annual eye exam.  So what are you waiting for call your optometrist and schedule and appointment today!

About the Author

laser surgery is safe way to correct eye vision or not……wt is the %age of its to go right…………..

No surgery is 100% safe.
(driving a car isn’t 100% safe: it kills 100 people a day in the USA!)

The most common dissatisfactions are, and they are in the 1-5% class depending on what counts:
Refraction not as near zero as hoped for.
Dry eyes temporarily or permanently.
Flare and glare at night.
More severe problems do occur, but with a below 1% incidence.

(Unless it happens to you, when the incidence in 100%, whatever the statistics for the whole population)

Over 95% of people are happy to very happy with the outcome, even if they have some degree of side-effect.
