A Look at LASIK

Decades ago, as soon as a doctor realized that you had bad eyesight there was no way of getting rid of it – in modern times this is no longer true. Looking for a way to make glasses obsolete, scientists tried to find a way to fix the eyesight problem – and eventually invented LASIK. LASIK stands for Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, which is a form of refractive eye surgery. While contact lenses let those with poor eyesight to not wear glasses, LASIK solves the hassle completely.

Although LASIK is a procedure that fixes poor eyesight by remodeling the cornea, it is not as difficult as other forms of surgery. LASIK is done in two stages; and as it does not hurt much it can be performed while the patient is awake (although a sedative is often used). In the first stage, a corneal flap of tissue is made using a special laser, and for the second stage, the cornea is remodeled in order to fix poor eyesight. Due to a laser being used, the cornea is “deceived”; it does not know it has been operated upon and thus many of the mishaps of old eye surgery (such as corneal haze) are removed.

Before a metal blade was used to make the corneal flap, these days a laser is used- which is faster and thus more comfortable. The laser currently used is the excimer laser; created by Dr. Bhaumik in May, 1973. When an ultraviolet excimer laser was discovered capable of altering tissue while leaving no heat damage to the surrounding area, scientific breakthroughs followed in the use of the excimer laser for eye surgeries- meaning today’s procedures are a lot less difficult than those of past generations. Although problems existed in the past, these have since been solved and very few problems today are had with LASIK eye surgery.

Since I’ve finished explaining LASIK eye surgery, an overview must be given of lasik Houston. Laser eye surgery in Houston is growing bigger and bigger, with lots of massive eye surgery companies in Houston. LASIK surgeons here have one of the quickest eye correction systems in Texas with around four hundred laser bursts per second, a lesser amount of time is spent under the laser; thus making it less daunting for the patient. This achieves even distribution of laser energy over the treatment zone on the cornea. In addition, the laser lasik houston surgeon allows for active eye tracking technology precise real-time tracking of the laser beam, to ensure accurate placement of each pulse.

does getting laser eye surgery hurt?

does it hurt when your getting it done? how about the days after it’s done?
AND IF YOU CAN’T HELP DON’T ANSWER!!! *cough cough* diana *cough cough*

I got PRK surgery done because I like to swim and play contact sports. Research PRK and Lasik and decide which one is for you.

It didn’t hurt a bit. Your eyes are propped open so that you aren’t able to blink by some device. The doc applies some numbing drops. As you look up you see a red dot that. I don’t know how else to describe the feeling but at first it almost tickled. I told the doc to put some more numbing drops before proceeding. The rest was a piece of cake, no pain whatsoever.

The weirdest part about the whole procedure was seeing the smoke coming out of your eye. It smelled like burned hair.

The real pain was the next couple days, it was manageable but it sucked. Any sort of light hurts your eyes so you wear sunglasses indoors. The pain ceased after about weak 2, still wearing sunglasses. Just wear sunglasses everytime you go outdoors for the next few months.
