Has anyone had laser eye surgery?
Just laser eye surgerytories from anyone who has had laser eye surgery…
What is it like while they are doing the procedure…can you see anything etc?
How much did it cost? UK please. I’m -2.75 and it’s costing £2k but my friend had -7 prescription and it cost the same.
Has anyone had complications after the surgery?
I’m scared of accidentally rubbing offlasik“flap” they talk about!!
I had LASIK in 2004 on both eyes. My prescription was -4.75 both eyes. I also had the same concern about the ‘flap’ and accidently rubbing my eye and damaging something!
I paid £1200 for both eyes but bear in mind it was five years ago.
On the day: Went to the clinic, had a pre op check, was given two valium to calm me and then taken into the theatre room. Drops where placed in my eyes to numb them-this was painless. My eyes were clamped one at a time, I found this slightly painful but they said most people don’t. I looked up and they cut the flap in my eye, I couldn’t really see anything and didn’t feel a thing, I then looked up at a red light and heard banging noises, counting downs and then it was all over. It really was quick and straightforward.
Post op: Left the clinic with two eye bandages so could see nothing, was taken home by partner. Had drops to put in to prevent infection and ones to prevent dryness. Had no post op pain at all and could see that evening, was slightly blurry but clearer at the same time. My main post op problem was dry eyes, my eyes were so dry I had to put eye drops and gel in every few mins. This was agony for me and I couldn’t go about my normal business. I was very concerned it would be permanent but had completely subsided in about 10 days. I don’t think everyone experiences the dry eye problem.
My eyes got better each day, after 2 days they were almost perfect with just a bit of short sightedness in one eye, within a week my sight was excellent and I had 20/20 vision. After a month at my check up they told me that one eye had been over corrected to +0.50 and the over was perfect.
I was careful with my eyes for some time after but it wasn’t long before I didn’t need to worry about rubbing them.
My sight still stands at perfect in one eye and +0.50 in the other even nearly 6 yrs later. I have no need for glasses now and have never had any regrets.
I have had one side effect since the surgery which still effects me now and that is my night vision, not my everyday night vision but during driving. I find that other cars headlights almost blind me and it makes night driving a little tricky for me. I hate night driving and find it quite traumatic because of it. But I understand that more modern surgery is better now in terms of this side effect.
