How long does laser eye surgery last?

I am considering getting it done because contacts and glasses can be a big pain at times.

I remember my grandpa got it YEARS ago when it just came out and it only lasted him about 3 years i think. Well i know it has gotten much better but how long does it typically last now a days?

Most people need glasses to read when they get into their forties even if they did not need them before. Some people feel that when they need glasses again in their forties, it is a sign that their laser procedure is no longer effective. This is really an expected result.
