Types of Eye Cataract Surgery

Our eyes are one of the most important parts of our body.  Without our eyes, we won’t be able to see the beauty of the world and enjoy it.  Imagine yourself having a blurry vision.  Isn’t it very uncomfortable? Having a blurry vision is very inconvenient and bothersome as well.  It is important that we take care of our eyes in order to avoid some eye problems.  One of the eye problems that is common among people nowadays is the eye cataract.

An eye cataract is a condition of the eye wherein the lens of the eye is clouded causing the person to have difficulty seeing things and a decrease in vision.  It is important that we have to treat eye cataracts as soon as possible because it gets worse progressively.  There are many different treatments for eye cataract which includes surgery and wearing of thick or stronger eye glasses. Most doctors usually recommend an eye cataract surgery for the removal of the cataract and to permanently improve the vision of the patient.

There are many types of eye cataract surgery and the kind of surgery depends on how serious the cataract is. However, it is important that you look for a good doctor who can perform an eye cataract efficiently. The three types of eye cataract surgery are extracapsular surgery, intracapsular surgery and lens replacement.  Extracapsular surgery is a kind of surgery that removes the lens of the eye but it is rather an old technique. This surgery is done when the cataract is hard.  It is done through a 10-12 incision.  One common kind of extracapsular surgery is the phacomulsification which uses ultrasound technology. The intracapsular surgery is done by removing the lens of the eyes and its surrounding lens capsules.

However, most doctors don’t recommend this treatment because if its high risk of complications.  With this surgery, a large incision is required because the whole lens has to be removed, thus, complications might occur. Cyroextraction is a kind of intracapsular surgery which uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the lens.  The last type is the eye replacement.  It has been noticed that this type of surgery has a higher success rate in that 90% of patients who have undergone this surgery don’t need to wear contact lenses anymore.  In this surgery, after the cataract has been removed, the lens is being replaced by an intraocular lens.  This type is also called implantation.  The intraocular lens is being implanted through a small incision or an enlarged incision.

However, in the past, people thought that treating cataract was very difficult.  With the advent of medical technology, eye cataract isn’t a problem anymore and the eye cataract surgery has indeed improved.  After the surgery, it can be noted that some patients can develop a secondary cataract but it is easy to treat.  It can be removed by a laser treatment which doesn’t usually last long.

Cataract operation in AGRA and ALIGARH?

Which kind of surgery is suitable for 70 year old person FECO or LASER for cataract. Also watery liquid flows from right eye. Please suggest good doctor at both locations.

Well there is no ‘laser’ for cataract surgery. The surgical removal is called ECCE. Phacoemulsification( “phaco” ) is the preferred technique, however it is much costlier than than the usual surgery (ECCE). And in certain conditions, even though the surgeon may start with the phaco, if the lens is too hard, he will have to take it out surgically by ECCE.
Go for phaco, even though its costlier as the complication rate is very less. However, you must remember that there is possibility of some complication evben with the best surgeon, so talk to your ophthalmologist about it and be prepared. Your doctor will deal with the complications as they arise, but in general, these surgeries are quite safe and very common.
Sorry, i have no idea about these two cities. Go ahead with any good ophthalmologist, talk beforehand about chances of complications and their management. Do not blame the doctor if your results are not perfect, that is how it is with everything in life.
