Antibiotics effect on Mirena IUD?

I recently got an ear infection, and I’m taking Optimyxin ear/eye drops to combat the problem along with Tylenol. the Optimyxin eye/ear drops contain : polymyxin B (as sulfate) gramicidin and benzalkonium chloride . I am wondering because the box is labling the product as being an antibiotic will this effect the reliablity of my birthcontrol. I am also on my peroid as of now. I`ve heard that antibiotics will affect `the pill` However I would like to know if they will effect my Mirena IUD.
Just to make my self clear. I am NOT looking for a new antibiotics to clear up my ear infection, what I`m using now owrks fine. I would like to know if my antibiotic will effect my birthcontrol.

Although your ear/eye drops are an antibiotic, they are a topical antibiotic, meaning that their absorption into your blood stream is minimal. The ointment you’re using is very similar to Triple Antibiotic or other over-the-counter topical antibiotics, except your product is specifically formulated for the eye.

Mirena does have a progestin hormone in it, and antibiotics can affect how well it works, but the antibiotic you’re taking won’t get into the blood stream to cause an interaction. Although the risk doesn’t really exist, if you’re still worried about it, you can always use backup protection (condom) for the month that you’re using the antibiotic.
