Installing SATA Optical Drive?

I want to put an extra DVD-ROM in my desktop. Im following a guide that says I need a motherboard that has a Serial ATA connector on it, or a Serial ATA host adapter and available PCI slot in which to install the adapter.

How can I find out if my motherboard is compatable? Im using a Gateway GT5098E. I looked up specs but they werent much help, it says, Motherboard-1 PCI express. Do i have to open my comp up? Thanks

i looked up the gateway support page. i found out that your motherboard is a foxconn motherboard and have 2 SATA connector which you can use. both of your harddisk and optical drive that comes with the system are using IDE interface. this means that your SATA is still not in use.
so you don’t have to open up your casing, you can use the new Sata DVD ROM as you wish.
