Dogs Corneal Eye Ulcer?
Alright so I have a few questions that I only want answered by PEOPLE WITH EXPIERENCE WITH CORNEAL ULCERS ON DOGS.
My dog has a Corneal Eye Ulcer, he already was given the eyedrops for pain and infection (two different kind).
1. How long will it take for the Ulcer to go away?
2. Did your dog need any surgery, what for?
3. Did your dog loose his eye sight parcially? Fully? Not at all?
4. to determine whether the dog had the Ulcer they did this eye drop and now my dogs eye, left eye, looks sort of blue. Will the discoloration go away? Or is this a sign of blindness because I know older dogs get that discoloration too.
Also….. I noticed there was something wrong with my dogs eye because it was closed and when I opened it, I couldn’t really see the eye. Now (a day after medication) he is sometimes holding his eye open. Is this a good thing? Does it mean the Ulcer is going away or is he just getting use to the Ulcer?
I have a 5 yr old chihuahua named Skeeter who has been having the corneal ulcers since she was about 2. They can be caused by scratch to the eye, or in my Skeeter’s case, it is what the vet calls spontaneous eye ulcers. She gets them about every 2-3 mo. We have used ointments and eyedrops, and the eyedrops work best for Skeeter. She only gets one kind not 2. We usually catch it very early because we are aware of the signs and know to watch her closely for them. We usually only have to treat her eyes a couple of days and they clear right up. The longer they go untreated, the worse it is and more danger of causing permanent damage to the eye. Usually Skeeter’s eyes look blue or cloudy when we notice the problem. The light usually bothers her eyes too and she will get under a blanket or a pillow. How long has she been on the drops? If she isn’t better in a day or 2 I would take her back to the vet. Okay I see he has only been on the drops one day. You should start notice improvement the next couple of days. The fact that the eye is open means that the meds are working. Hope he feels better soon.
Skeeter has never had surgery for her eyes, and still has good sight. Like I said the main thing is to catch it ealry when it first starts.
