artificial eye drops
artificial eye drops

What are some good eye drops?
Ok so I have a really bad case of dry eyes. I went to the eye doctor and she told me that my tears just don’t lubricate my eyes enough so that’s y I get dry eyes. I tried vaisine, clear eyes, and refresh tears. None of them work. I need fake tears or something, what are some good eye drops or artificial tears?
Visine and clear eyes are just bad for anyone with dry eye. Refresh tears might work for some people, but it really is the lightest drop on the market, so it doesn’t stay around for long.
Which brings me to.. go back and get punctal plugs! they’re painless, covered by insurance, and will prevent the tears you do add to your eyes from draining out.
In regards to the eye drops you should use, I personally hated systane after experiencing a nasty reaction to it. I would, however, suggest trying some of the array of single-use vials of artificial tears. Again, preservative free single use vials, not bottles. The boxes they come in are larger than the ones for multi-use bottles and will list a certain amount of vials, like 20 or 30.
Some options include refresh endura (or refresh dry eye, as it’s now marketed as, in any case, this one is quite difficult to find these days), bion tears (which is for severe dry eye and can be found almost everywhere), and if you really must try systane, that comes in single-use vials as well.
My favorite drop, by far, is dwelle and nutratear as a combo. Dwelle is a heavier, long lasting, drop, while nutratear is a lighter drop that can be put in the fridge and used to soothe sore eyes. Dwelle will definately cause some discomfort while you’re new to using it (say, the first three weeks) but for many people (and there’s some good articles out on this) it can improve ocular surface wettability.. in non-strange speak, it can make your dry eyes less dry over time, not just mask the symptoms temporarily.
Dwelle can only be purchased at the dry eye shop http://dryeyeshop.com/ – I would definately suggest, especially if the store bought options don’t ‘do it’ for you, giving it a try.
I would also suggest heading to the dry eye forums at http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/ and introducing yourself there. There’s a whole array of other options for dry eye, ranging from environmental controls like humidifiers and moisture chambers, to dietary supplements like flax seed oil, an array of prescription drops, and a wealth of home-made treatments in between- and you can ask about all of them there.
