in america am i suitable candidate for lasik eye surgery?

i have something like +8.00 on a 180degree axis and +7.25 on a 180 axis both with an astigmatism pretty bad i know so i was wondering if eye surgeons over there have more exp on high perscriptions as ye have an obviously large population and how much is it aswell

I also have hyperopia, +2.75 in each eye corrected with glasses. I have never seriously considered Lasik but I do know that it works quite well with many patients. But I know that most of these patients have lasika though – much easier to correct with Lasik than what we have.

The laser has more “meat” to work with in a myopia patient as they have to only flatten out the lens to reduce it’s focusing power. With hyperopia they have to increase the curve to the lens – harder to do as they can’t really add curve – so they whittle away around the sides of the lens to force a new and steeper curve to the lens. A more difficult task. Greater chance with post op issues I think. Surgery of any type has a chance of infection, etc. I am not ready to step up yet. And since I wear progressives for reading – I still might need glasses anyway, so what is the point?

Look into interocular implants – I wonder if they are doing that for hyperopia correction? Slip a plus lens into the eye, instead of glasses – not sure. But that is what they do for cataract patients.

Good luck.
