Thoughts on Laser Eye Surgery?
I have had to wear corrective lenses for 13 years of my life. Since 2nd grade until 7th grade I wore glasses and 7th grade til now I wear contacts. I am seriously tired of them and would like to not have to wear either anymore. So my question is if you have gotten laser eye surgery, would you reccomend it, did it hurt, how long did it take anlasik you get both eyes done? Thanks!
My doctor had lasik surgery and we refer people who are good candidates that want the surgery. There are risks and some of those risks involve side effects that will last a lifetime (irreversible). Lasik is only done at the earliest for people in their mid 20′s (eyes have to stop growing in order to have the surgery).
You have to measure risk vs. reward. If you have a strong Rx, thick glasses, then the risks and rewards can even out. If you do not have a strong Rx, then the risks definitely outweigh the rewards. One of the side effects that could happen is very bright halo’s around lights that would prevent you from ever driving at night. Although rare, it does happen.
The surgery itself is painless and it takes a very short time (You’re awake during it all).
Each person has to make their own decision. If you do decide to have it, ensure you do your homework about the procedure and especially inquire around to get the best doctor available to do the surgery. We send our people to Toronto at the Bochner Eye Institute. He helped develop Lasik surgery and has done literally thousands of surgeries including surgery on my doctor.
Good Luck to you
